Hey, both of you grandpas...calm down, get out the AARP card and get a discount on that Denny's grand slam. Then we'll all play skittles at the next Goichbergia, loser buys the cheetohs.

Oh nitwitty, for all you know I'm older than all of you. Get a grip and try to stay the course. It's not hard.

The Millionarie Chess is a 100% failure. They have failed to secure a sponsor, so we'd have to cover up the expenses. Ok, it's one million prize fund, so where are the top players? Where is Carlsen? Kramnik? Kasparov? Anand? Why should we pay so much be in the same event with those FM/IM? The whole thing is a joke.

Prize fund is a little over 300K

I can guarantee I'm older than you Some things will always remain obvious.

I think Richie has a couple of years on me, well according to him.

A bunny walks into a bar, sees a tough crowd, and leaves ...

Watch out, the next time it could be a panda who walks in.

Umm, who cares about what chess celebrities are in the event?

No, who plays in the even is the single most important factor. If you want to gamble, there're casinos for you. The only reason why they can charge high entry fees is this is an open event where you can compete with super grandmasters. Unfortunately, nothing makes sense if no elite players compete. Caruna, Nakamaura and Welesy all preferred not to compete this year. Nobody cares 2300+ masters, they don't derserve us to pay them. Only 2750+ players deserved be paid for playing in the same event with us.

This is incorrect. 2/3 of the players play in the lower classes. They can not be paired with big names. Which GM enters has no bearing on their participation. No one is about to shell out several thousands to see Naka drinking red bull in the flesh.

They are not in the U.S, Carlsen is busy touring, So, Naka, and Caruana were in Isle of Man. Anand ans Svidler were in Tal Memorial

90% of the players who show up for a tournament won't be competing in the section with the super GMs.

Well, the Chillionaire Mess is finally over. Not with a bang, but a whimper, as go most things. Here on the forums we spilled a lot of digital ink on the enterprise, and watched it all the way through.

MC1 was simply under-funded. It was a grandiose plan that wasn't grounded in any marketing reality. Lots of boodle was spent on glitz and fripperies, and I'm guessing it was the most fun of the three events - certainly it generated the most interest from the outside world.

MC2 was the slip off the precipice, with first-round pairing blunders, class-level sandbaggers, and a small group of Grandmasters who swooped in for a cash grab. Nakamura's 9-move draw shenanigans, legal as it may finally have been, was the capper to the fundamental unseriousness of the event.

MC3 - It came and went quietly, in a rather dismal location, with low fanfare and even less public interest. I'm not sure why they held it at all, but it's done now.

Here on the boards we had a good old time, made some cuddly friends like dinnerhour and topcrop, and hopefully helped them and others along the tortuous path of understanding what MC really meant. In essence - it signified the impossibility of trying to normalize chess as an entertainment product, and it confirmed to we the players that our values regarding our beloved game are not centered on money or glam surroundings.

We just want to win more games. Pass the cheetohs, and say hi to Goichberg for me.

MC3 was held because the original contract called for three events. Some have argued here that they could have pulled out after the 2nd. and cut their losses anticipated by holding #3. I guess so, but speculate that a heavy penalty outweighed that decision. The only one to know will be the tax man, when as many losses possible get written off.

mdinnerspace

Sad. MC threads go by way of the trash bin. Nobody even interested or cares about this year's winners. I for one will check out the best dressed winners. I expect turbans, seguins, long dresses and bow ties to be the order of the day.

I heard somebody made an entrance on a horse. Was that Richie?
