Measure the distance between their thumb and forefinger and multiply that figure by the product of their age times the number of chess books they own.

/ In my case, that would be 0.5 feet times my age (60) times 60 books, which comes out to 1800, which is a little below my last USCF over the board rating.

//You can't. The only way would be to review a collection of the player's rated games. Before you know it, you could compute a rating.

LOL, one of the best jokes I've ever heard! I'm 62 and I have about 1O books. My rating here is about 1300, I must buy books and stretch my thumb and fingers.

Hahaha. Thanks! It might be a bit awkward to ask their age etc.

Nah if I could get some online games of theirs I would, but I can't at the moment. I am trying to work it out without the use of online games (that path got me in trouble in my last forum!).

At the moment I am 1-1 with them so I can only guess about 1250-1350 at the moment.

Also @notmtwain, I am yet to buy a book yet, so that's great news for me! wink.png

It's sort of hard to tell someone's rating without any background. I think you may be able to get it in the ballpark, but that's it. I've been destroyed by lower rated players and I myself have destroyed higher rated players. Overall rating estimates not just your play, but your consistency

Also yeah I guess. I was just curious, but we are close enough that we can enjoy good games for now.

0.67X63X1=my real rating is only 42...lol. The only chess book I own is Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess from 1972

The Jets looked like the better team in the first period. I think they will have a good season.

Play them in 3 long time control games. Might be able to get away with 2

Two wins?

Realistically you should do more than two games and spread it over several days in case they're sick or whatever else but I doubt most people would be satisfied with such an answer

Yeah, we only had time for two that time. I will be looking for more games with them, so that will give me a better indication.

0.25 * 1 * 11 does not equal 1250
