Most famous person you ever played chess against.

When I was 12 or so, a GM came to the local mall and played up to 15 (I think) games simlutaneously. I actually beat him one game but I don't think he took me all that seriously. His last name was Hamliton, I think the first name was George.
By the way, he resigned a position that I figured was far from defeated . . I'll take it!

Played IM William Martz twice in 1975. lost both games badly.
Played GM Leonid Shamkovich in 1977. Game lasted 39 moves, you can guess who won.
All three games were simuls.

What about playing against erik? Isn't he famous the creator of chess.com
^Lol never played Eric but that was funny.
Can't say I've ever played someone really famous. I did play a couple blitz games with the 8th Grade USA Chess Champion (Andrew Ng rated around 2000, younger brother of a classmate). It actually wasn't a slaughter, but it wasn't close. And of course he used less than half the time I did, which is rather humbling considering I'm a senior in High School.

GM Roman Dzindzidashvili here in Vegas in '91. Was a 31 game simul.
I blew an even endgame and lost. I think he went 30-0-1.

I actually had lunch with him once, but I never played chess against him. I didn't realize he had written books on the BDG and similar gambits at the time. He was just another guy playing in the same tournament as me a few years ago, and we started talking on line at McDonald's and ended up sitting together and talking while we ate. I found out about his books when I was looking for something new to play as white and ended up buying his BDG Keybook II from a tournament vendor last year. Good book, and nice guy.
The most famous player I've played against is GM Lev Alburt, in a simul game. Needless to say, I lost.
The most famous player I've actually beaten in a chess game is former USCF 4th grade national champion Jeffrey Haskel, who as a teenager was part of this year's national championship team in the US Amateur Team competition, and also finally broke 2200 to become a National Master. I beat him in a tournament game when he was rated around 1800, and I was only 1250 or so at the time. That's still the biggest upset of my chess career.

Holy Smokes - not only are they real, but they eat and drink like humans. Thanks for the info :)

Hmmm...I found a George C Hamilton of Texas who is a current life member of USCF but a rating isn't shown. I seriously doubt that would be him since any really good player would have a rating.

not much. I'm nearly 16 and I've played one or two WFM, a world champion (U7, but he was 9 when i played him and i lost)..never won any of them of course.
Tell you the truth I heard of Josh Waitzkin in a movie ( Finding Bobby Fischer) and didn't think he was real.
