Most underrated opening?

What do you think is the most underrated opening?wk

For me it has to be Old Benoni, not just because of the beautiful name, it is actually a pretty damn good opening with a lot of traps in it. Do you have any openings you see as your secret weapon?

A game i had against a guy, that actually just developed decently (I am playing as black FYI wink.png)

It is also my biggest fear when i am going for the Old Benoni to face d5! But you can still make a great position out of it with black afterwards, I believe the top engine move is to play d4 - c5 - d5 - e5 and alot of players would take en passant there - which is also a mistake.

I don't know if it's underrated, but I play the Wing Gambit against the Sicilian a lot with some reasonable success. I rarely see it played it against me though. I also play the Důras Gambit a lot, which is totally unsound, but is rarely punished effectively by sub-1200 players. Same for the Grob Opening. Anything kinda weird and inexperienced players can be caught out by overthinking or overconfidence.

Just goes to show you can't force your opponent into any lines.

Your original post reminds me of a trap line I shoot for playing queens gambit.

Důras Gambit is one you see very rare, so i believe that could be the next one in my book! Do you have good success with it and do you have any spicy secrets to share? chessbook

It looks kind of the same.
I actually only have around 3 out of 3000+ games where i have been playing d4 - d5, because i know that half of the players playing d5 has been studying the London system, so I am trying to throw them off theory early on.

Am sure there are some traps and stuff but I proceed pretty normally after a couple of moves. Generally I just play unrated games and am not too bothered about winning; mostly do random things just to see if they pay off.

You might also like the Perseus Gambit, which then leads to the Carlson Gambit. https://www.chess.com/openings/French-Defense-Perseus-Carlson-Gambit If you then bring your queen up to h5, half the time your opponent will fatally defend with a knight or pawn and you can then checkmate in less than 10 moves. Of course, this is not the main line and only works at lower rating levels. But again, it's fun to see if it works.
