I use the rollerball type at work. While not as fast or as precise, it is close once you get used to it.

The trackpad (on my Mac laptop) is just too slow for blitz. So I need to buy an external mouse.
I'm wondering whether to go with a rollerball mouse, where the hand is stationary and only the fingers move, or an old-fashioned "moving" mouse.
The rollerballs seems to be more ergonomic, which is good, but I wonder whether they're fast and precise enough for blitz. Have you successfully used a rollerball to play chess online?
