I listen to music when I play
Music and chess.
I often listen to music, either calming classical like Bach, Scarlatti, Handel, or rock 'n' roll. There are times when only The Rolling Stones will do. ![]()
I always listen to music while pilaying but i wonder if it disturbs me.
Is total sillence beter?
Maybe are my games affected by some songs ?
There's only one way to find out! Try silence when playing and see if you do better.
Personally i prefer silence when playing. I think most people do.
Maybe you play beter when you like the music
All i know is; chess demands total concentration, and i cannot concentrate when listening to music at the same time.
I play music fairly seriously, although not professionally. Personally, I find music to be very distracting. I get to "into it" instead of the chess.
I find classical easier to tune out, but if tuning it out, what is the point?
I know that is a personal answer, and some people find the music relaxing, etc. But for the most part, that just isn't me.
For the same reason, I can't go to sleep with music playing, even at very low levels.
I listen to the Mozart videos on YouTube while playing chess. They say that Mozart makes you smarter just listening to it. Don't know about that but I do know that it turn my brain on, makes me more aware of what I'm doing. Also some players take a long time to make their moves and listening to Mozart keeps me from falling asleep while my opponent is deciding on his move.
