Hehe thanks. Was i good?

5.e5! puts a stop to your plans, white develops a strong initiative and cracks your solid hold over e5.

5...d5 6.Bb3,Nfd7 7.Bxd5 wins a pawn, black made too many weakening pawn moves while white is still better developed whereas the exchange gives white a good knight on e5.

The d5 square is terribly weak in dragon like setups, and white's play in the opening wasn't exactly optimal (passive, concedes central dark squares without a fight).

However, ...e6 is too weakening and your d6 pawn is looser now.

10...Re8 looks too slow, strike in the center before white activates!  He opened the position when he lacks the right (not enough piece activity, moved too slow)

7...Bd7 why would you surrender your queen's control over the d-pawn?!  It's critical here as you can viably push it for strong counterplay, but not if the queen's view is obstructed.

11.b4? is a clear blunder, making unnecessary pawn moves that are simply loosening.  11.e5! again is active and thematic.

11.e5,dxe5 12.dxe5,Ng4 13.Qd4 punishing black's passive play.

11...Qc7! is active and correct.

12.Qd3?? is a gross blunder, the queen is overloaded now and the simple 12...Rc8! wins for black. White can put up resistence with 13.Nd2,Nc6 14.Nb5,Qb8 15.Bb3,Nxb4. There are so many variations to consider but they all work out in black's favor as you break white's coordination no matter what.

14...Nxb4! great vision!

16.Qb1 never want to simplify when things are clearly better for the opponent!

16.Qb1,Qxc3 17.Rc1,Nxe4! 18.Rxc3,Nxc3 19.Qd3,Bb5 20.Qd2,Rc6 and black has a strong initiative and attack for the exchange.  You completely own the c-file so your coordination, c-file control, and bit of extra material and activity means the imbalance favors you.

I thought you played well for the most part, though you both played a little passive.

Use a databse, really, really helps and gives you an advantage over others who don't use one.

Correspondence chess? Database? What are those lol?

Correspondence chess is online chess, databases are huge collections of master games. They're useful for finding the most used moves and can be used to help you in the opening and early middle game but can only be used for correspondence chess.

Isnt that cheating?

You'd think so, but no.

Whats the difference betweena database and an engine?

Databases aren't anything like engines. Good engines will give you good moves at any point during th game, so you're basically a GM level player using an engine (at least your engine is...). With a database you're on your own after a certain number of moves unless you're incredibly lucky, and it's basically nothing more than a big collection of openings comprised of individual games. I'm overcomplicating this, but basically database = OK whereas engine = NOT OK

Forktime

Oh ok. so basicalyy database= good

Engine= Baddddddd
