There’s plenty of apps for that, there’s LiChess and Social Chess, I also think that Chess-wise has that as well. Chess.com will probably add an offline version as well someday.
To play live chess in one phone you should have two browsers in your phone. The first browser to open one account of yours. The second browser for the other account of your friend.
You will play on your own browser. While your friend on the other.
There is an iOS app called Chess Moves. Developer is Asim Pereira. Download test this app, it might be what you are looking for.

The lichess app "offline OTB" mode would be something I'd recommend.

Use the app. No need to use analysis mode. Use the vs Computer mode, change both players to human, and turn off any settings you don't want.

Better to play on a chess board - pieces would be awfully small fo fit on a phone . . .
