My journey from patzer to intermediate player

Just a few days ago I reached my peak blitz rating here of 1805. I learnt the rules of chess when I was eight or nine, but before late October of last year I had only played a few friendly games against family members. Now after eight months of playing a few of games here daily, I've already improved quite a lot, and am hoping to reach NM strength by the time I turn 20. I may consider having a few lessons with a chess coach at some point, as at the moment my only source of theoretical knowledge is the learning resources available on youtube (GingerGM, thechesswebsite.com, MatoJelic etc.), and I doubt that this will be adequate once I reach expert level. Using the tactics trainer here and on other sites is what I feel helped me the most, and my biggest piece of advice to anyone rated below 1500 looking to improve fast is to solve a ton of puzzles.

How long did it take you to reach your current blitz rating, and what resources did you use to improve?

I had a similar experience. Consistently rated 1400-1600 for many years. (Bullet)

Started doing puzzles on the daily, saw my Tactics ranking go up and reach a peak of 1950. Started playing bullet again and now I fluctuate from 1750-1950s

My bullet rating goes all over the place. Some days I'll be playing at a 1900-2000 level, and on other days I'll blunder every game like a complete patzer. I don't take bullet chess too seriously though, and I often play stupid openings like the bongcloud attack (where you bring your king out to the third rank), or the transvestite opening (where you switch the king and queen's positions) just for fun.

Yeah, tactics is wayyy more important to focus on than opening/endgame theory if you're stuck at 1100. Just keep doing puzzles, but make sure that when you get one wrong, you analyse the solution until you fully understand it. Just immediately going on to the next puzzle after failing one is totally pointless. People often say that you should also analyse your games, but I can never be bothered to do that. Probably not a bad idea though.

Well, watching tons of videos and tactics and playing bullet and blitz. That made me to around 1700 just for playing 1 year after abondoning the game as teen, knowing rules and basic checkmates., then chess mentor, video lessons helped me to improve. Still a lot to study/learn.
