Hmm... I think a mod should just already lock this topic. My standpoint of rationale? Trolls are attracted to this topic like flies to trash.

Gilded_Candlelight

my standpoint of rationale? yeah, that makes no sense. You mean the rationale of my standpoint.

goldendog

I am playing chess from 5 years and recently heard of chess.com. And believe it or not, I beated phalanx chess engine(its set strength was 1700) last night in around 40 moves and the time control was infinity for me and 1 minute per move for phalanx. I am browsing from mobile that is why i am not able to post my game. And again the opening moves i copied from MCO-14

Enough with this bullshit... Somebody ban him frm this site.

I don't think there are rules against lying and/or creative story telling on chess.com.

My nephew beat Houdini.

Liar.

What if they aren't lying?

Shut up, you're stupid.

No you are, his nephew could have beat Houdini.

No he couldn't.

We don't believe it because it isn't true.

Not only is it an impossible story, but the OP began his post with basically saying, "I am not lying about this, and if you don't believe me then don't comment" which is what you'd expect someone making up a story to say.  When someone has to begin their story with that in order to attempt to validate the story's veracity, I get skeptical.  Then add the fact that the OP has never come back to defend his claim, and there's no reason whatsoever to believe that it is in any way true.

On the internet, you can be whoever you want to be, and the impossible becomes possible.

Haters gonna hate, idiots gonna believe.

I'm guessing the OP is writing a PhD thesis about gullibility on the internet. We're all getting our 15 minutes of fame, yay!

I haven't read all 11 pages so excuse me for reposting something if I am... but the hardest part I have in believing this is... "houdini resigned". I've never seen a computer resign. Is this a new thing on houdini?

If this is the part you don't believe the most then it's pretty funny. Yes, engines do resign.

That is like saying "I  buy this whole Jesus thing, but I am having trouble believing he has a beard, I mean, a beard! really folks."

reptar6

Ok ok. So it's not the ONLY thing I didn't believe but I learned something new about engines. Thanks :)

Jion_Wansu

Look, chess engines are the same as CPU controlled fighting game characters. If you can find the patterns and weaknesses and bugs of the cpu controlled characters/chess engines then you can beat them...

No, they aren't at all.

ClavierCavalier

That's a very broad generalization.

Yereslov

Houdini is rather weak if you choose to play bullet chess.

MrDamonSmith

I've read on here that people claim the OP just made up a lie. Could be, maybe not. I don't believe the "nephew" was good enough to beat Houdini under normal circumstances. I do believe the OP could've been bamboozled himself. Maybe he didn't sit and watch 100% of all that was happening. Maybe when he would leave the room the nephew really got to work cheating and when he could hear somebody was on the way back to check and see how things were going the nephew would get back to pretending he was playing. Just slaving away over his next move. Maybe the OP was just fooled and didn't purposely lie but was gullible that's all.Andnow he probably realizes it. Has be responded or
