My nephew beat HOUDINI?!?!

If your nephew really existed you would not be willing to NOT disclose his name because it would be a honour to have a win against Houdini playing fantastically perfectly like that.

On the other side, if your nephew was really a human and you would not be willing to DISCLOSE his name, it's because he's a personality, someone famous.  Well, HE'S NOT!

Calm down, Dear.

I am all for freedom of speech but this kind of crap should be thrown out by the "monitors". Believe me, I do not want censorship but all the objections that the OP has suffered are quite warranted. I personally know masters who cannot outplay Houdini. Now can we pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee move on. Not only is the OP mocking our intelligence, but he is mocking Chess.

The threads purpose is our amusement!

Are you ok ??

You are talking about Houdini 3.0 !! I don't think that a human can beat Houdini in this way. I agree what shepi13 said ! No human player can do a move exactly the first choice of the engine !

The basic anti computer tactics say that you must pull the engine out of its opening book to reduce its strength a little. This is a well known sicilian defence. I dont think it is possible for a human to go with this way!

If you think you are really true then please don't post such things without a proof. I know ; I am not much experienced in chess , but I can definitely state that this is fake.

Dodger111

Ain't no 8 year old gonna beat Houdini, hell GM's have trouble beating it.

Pashakviolino

An 8 year old boy beating easily engines at their highest level? Aha good luck with anyone believing that.

If that was true, that kid would be already a celebrity.

Fake story!

Why dont you just ask your nephew to play chess here?

We can see that this is the real deal or just the made up story

cyberdynsystemsmodel

hey whats up with ur cousin now

kaz321123

My brother's next door's neighbor's dog ate a white bishop.  We didn't get the piece back for at least like 2 weeks.

When that same dog got up to the computer, it slobbered all over the screen-while making a panting noise.  We went to look over at the screen-and it said 'houdini-class 2 error crash'.  The computer never worked the same since. :P

That dog is at least over 9,000 rating.  Its name is dog.

By the way, I have heard of various glitches in Houdini where it sometimes plays badly (under 1000 rating).  I read about it just today.  Some engines can't solve certain strange end games.  There's bound to be bugs in these programs sometimes.

The game was nice.

To be honest, I destroyed chessmaseter in a 5 minute game. How did I do it? I prepared up to like 20 moves a variation of the sicilian, checked with houdini all the ideas, made sure it was closed so the computer had no chance of beating me, and ...action!!! Basically, it was a trivial win.

In Blitz, engines will more or less miss the best move when it comes to the smaller time control. They still play strong. But their chances go down only slightly.

chesskingdreamer

Exactly. Having spent most of his time trying to "survive" against my novelty, he simply blundered later.

HaveAnotherGame

Good for you.

Nicholas_Shannon80

Houdini doesn't resign.

HaveAnotherGame

Engines can and for the most part resign at least vs humans.

The op isn't an experienced player as he pointed out, his nephew had recently got him into the game. So he himself barely knew how to play. The nephew likely set up the program so he could beat it, heck, the op wouldn't know the difference, & tadaaa!! He was amazed. Just naivete is all. The op isn't lying. He just got tricked by a little kid that wanted a pat on the back for how amazing he was. Now he probably knows it & feels like an idiot for falling for it. After all, when was the last time he was on here?

Edit: OK, he was on here last month & has played many games. I guess he didn't feel the need to address this thread anymore.

Hello everyone, I have been reading through all of your comments and I understand why many of you are doubting whether I am telling the truth or not. I have called my brother this morning and told him that I looked online and could not find any other instance of a person beating the houdini program. He agrees that what his son did is very impressive and that he would not be uncomfortable with me trying to get in touch with some kind of news station. With the help of my wife, I am writing an email to chessbase which is the company I purchased the program from which also covers chess related news. It would be quite amazing if they are willing to send a journalist down to watch Adam play. Ill try to keep everyone updated!
