One of my teachers is doing this as well. I would recommend trying to convince your principal otherwise, but it could be an administrator’s decision.
You could do your work and pay attention during class, the play chess after your homework is complete.

Or, you know, just play video games (there are some really good proxies that schools can't ban)
This happened at my school but then for some reason it was back up and running the next day.

If it’s become a distraction it should be stopped. If you’re learning more on CC, you’re failing.
Many kids are graduating from high school without an education these days.

There are other things that you need to learn in school. Unless you are already a master by the end of sixth grade, chess will not be your career.
