So my opponent decides to sacrifice his queen on move 3 for just a pawn . And I am up 8 points worth of material right in the opening . At 1700 this should be enough to safely pull out a win , isn't it ? Guess what ? I managed to lose the game .

My condolences! I know how that feels.

If you're interested, here's an easy way to refute this (or other similar sacrifices on f7), if you ever come across it again:

Basically, you just think "castle by hand". And you simply keep an eye on the g5 square.

After you've successfully castled by hand, then you can go about attacking white's central pawns, and developing your queenside pieces.

But castle by hand first.

Thank you

That was a strategy failure.

I didnt even realise he had a threat. My mindset was , "yeah I am up a queen. What the heck can he even do ?"

This happens to everyone. even to me (believe it or not). You'll soon win bigtime. And you're the same great guy that your were before that loss. win or lose, you're great. - you're a very respectful person regardless of chess. chess is a board game

I know how you feel. Maybe watching Magnus Carlsen and Garry Kasparov blunder helps.

Are you sure about that my darling? No need to treat them like criminals otherwise they will rob you of a win.

don't let your self respect depend on 1 move only (actually do not let it depend on chess at all), just do not play dxe5 next time and you'll be fine :)

The strategy is to be careful and develop, while taking opportunities to attack when they present themselves. But mainly develop safely and efficiently.

Right . I have learnt my lesson , and will follow these principles. And most important thing is to not get too excited when I win material.

You look a little weak on the white squares.

I report husband to chess.com at least 5 times a day plus I have him blocked and he would make another account and I would block that one too and report him AGAIN

Oh man thats still better . He got baited and took ya queen  .  In mycase......nvrmd I need to forget this game asap

I once did something like this.

There were other pieces in the game of course, and Black ended up winning because I thought the obvious Qxh7# is too boring and I decided to play the fancy Qxf8 "checkmate". The checkmate pop-up message never came, and I was like "oh gosh". I resigned before my opponent made the forced capture.

One unfortunate game will not define us. Almost all of us have made silly mistakes like this before. Even Kramnik, against Deep Fritz, had unwittingly allowed a mate in one.

You will emerge stronger.
