My top ten list of total jerks in baseball

The yanks were successful early on. that is not something to hate them for

ivandh

maybe a good tip would be to relate your discussion to something that was actually said. I stated several times why the Yankees suck, and that was never one of them, nor did I say that they are good because there is a lot of commerce in the city they happen to be affiliated with.

The_Pyropractor

so what is your accusation then?

BTW, I am a Red Sox fan, so I am not just being a typical yanks fan...

Lol, cause they are different teams that are under different management which manages differently.

Ah, so are you admitting that the yankees used some brilliance in aquiring those World series titles? You know, picking out the right players at the right time. Plus, their salary cap was not like this in the early days when they won almost every year. Let's start with Ruth, he didn't even want to go to the Yanks, he wanted to stay with the Sox, so I doubt they were offering him the type of the amount they're giving A-Rod. Gehrig only played because he needed some money because he needed to pay a big hospital bill for his mother, so he wasn't interested on getting a fortune, just so he had some money (There's a movie about him, it's called "Pride of the Yankees"). Those are just a coupleexamples.

The_Pyropractor

haha joe, you are a yankee encyclopedia!

Relentless95

Lol thanks, it comes to use at times like this.

You give people a lot of credit for thinking of writing a few extra zeros on paychecks. It doesn't take a genius to look at who is on top of the stats and shove a fistful of money in their faces.

Furthermore, how is it that the team of 100 years ago has anything to do with today? I'm not talking about Gehrig's team, I'm talking about the douches of our own times. As Sonya cited, today the yankees club makes $90M more than the next team and their rivals the Sox. They just throw money around to get all the best players, no matter how corrupt they might be. If you love the Yankees blindly then this is great, but it gives off a bitter taste to those who have any.

A lot of that money has to do with Jeter, Rivera, and Posada, players who have been on the yanks their whole careers. They just became free agents this year, and all three of them were near the top in the payroll. So, they were given a lot of money because they deserved it, the yankees weren't worried about them leaving, obviously because they weren't free agents.

DZumpino94

Love how much you hate the Phillies...Go Mariners...Ichiro, good sport all around.

The_Pyropractor

Totally!! I love Ichiro!! Phillies were losers this year, and I bet cliff lee is kicking himself because he turned down MORE money from the Yankees, and if he had been with them, they would be in the WS now...

Did you read David Ortiz's comments on the possibility of joining the Yankees as a free agent this off season? He said it would be a privilege to join such a classy organization. Ask Johnny Damon where he'd rather play (remember last year he refused a trade back to the BoSox). How did the Sox treat Francona? Why did Theo Epstein jump ship? May be the Yankees aren't so awful after all?

The_Pyropractor

Why are there orioles fans?? their team is horrible!! what about the Nationals? I love my team, and it is not going to change. I respect and enjoy watching the Yanks play, however, but even if Ortiz leaves and goes to them, it will be fine. Francona was not treated horribly, he was asked to make his own decision on his contract, and he said that he did not want it to be picked up.

Add Beckett, Lester and Lackey with a bucket of fried chicken and a 12 pack of Budlight. Go Red Suds! ( Now Miguel Cabrera will expect beer in the dugout too.)

Joe-Milan

To defend Relentless95, just because fans are really "fanatics", gives them no excuse to wreck cars and trash the streets, I don't find that as being loyal, just uncivilized. As for the yankees always spending too much, you do know that every other team can also do that, right? The fact is, they are more diehard about winning than most other owners are who couldn't care less about how their team is doing.

Ah yes, forgot to mention, which huge free agent is helping them right now? A-Rod is so overpaid, it's a complete joke. He plays like someone a fourth of his payroll. Teixeira I wouldn't consider is one of the best right now. Sabathia is not even that good, and this year their main free agent contributors are Kuroda and Jeter. We knew Jeter is always a Yankee, and I don't believe Kuroda's trade was anything big, he's overachieving.

Just ask the Red Sox and Phillies how easy it is to make a strong team with a large amount of money.

The_Pyropractor

^Exactly.
