Hello I think I have a not so common problem. It seems that when I play higher rated opponent's I tend to play better than what I usually do and my overall result's against people higher rated is actually average when it should be below since I'm not in there rating range but when I play people around  my rating or lower and look at the game a bit afterwards I  don't play as good as I usually do so I sometimes have upsetting games. To me the conclusion is this against higher player's I give 100% but against people my rating and lower I give it 60% or so without meaning to alot of time's Does anyone else have this sort of problem ? If so how should I go about fixing it?

Start by deciding to give it 65% (see: do-you-give-it-100%?)

ya dear its a common thing, almost every one faces this issue. i would say that we tend to be moreserious when we know the calibre of our opponent, otherwise we take things lightly.Such cases also arise when you make a wrong move and then to compensate it, you play with utmost care.

Hope Your Worries metigated a little bit.

I even evaluate positions differently based on how strong I think my opponent is.

I don't think it's possible to play the same way against every opponent, and if you did it might even hurt your results.  Against a much stronger person I'm basically being given draw odds and I don't mind playing a quiet position... say a locked symmetrical pawn structure for example.

When playing someone much weaker I'm not going to waste time and energy calculating out deep lines, maybe even double checking some obscure in between moves when it's clear that they trade pieces at the first opportunity for example.  So when I reach what I feel is a sufficiently complex calculation, I stop there and like I said above I wonder if trying to do otherwise would hurt your game.  Not that I'm giving as low as 60%, probably 80-90% of what I would be giving to a much stronger player.

But  yeah, 60% is low.  I can't relate to this problem so it's hard for me to give you advice.  It's an interesting topic though... I don't think it's possible or even reasonable to give 100% in every game.

I have the same problem; I blunder much more frequently against poorer players because I'm overestimating them.

Just focus, and remind yourself to make every move with a purpose! Never just "go through the motions" because you're position is winning, or because you're so much higher rated.

I think this is what is going on??????? Ans., When you play a low rated player, especially the openings you are seeing moves rather unusual, not expected to say the least. It can sometimes draw you in and play moves you would normally not play, making for an outrageously interesting game. lolo   But you should be having fun and winning!
