Play consistently. I like to play at least one 15+10 game per day and its got me from 800 in january this year to 1700. consistency is key

Players who improve very slowly, or not at all, tend to focus too heavily on the openings.

Most time should be spent playing. After that probably tactics. After that, probably endgames or strategy.
