I need your help and advice!

How do you cope with chess anxierty and nerves? Ok to clarify let me give you 3 scenarios:

 1) Suppose you make a stupid and idiotic move, you realised the mistake once you made that move. I have seen some players remain "poker faced" in case the opponent return the favor. Now my question is how do they remain so calmed when they knew it was a mistake?

What kind of thoughts must you have to do so?

 2) The position is unclear, wild and sharp. You can't calculate till the end. How do some players able to remain calm?

 3) I am about to start my game. I get very nervous. What do i need to do to relax?

 Appreciate your help.

Once you notice your nerves getting excited, focus on something simple for a moment, like breathing slow and deep. This wont help if you're playing blitz.

I see you like music, think of the chess game as a duet song where somebody else and yourselve are taking tourns to sing in the same song, try not to think of a game of chess as you handling only the white pieces or the black pieces rather focus on the singing notes from yourselve and your opponent and soon you will see things similar to 'The I believe I can fly' song by R'Kelly happen on the board everytime you play, always remember that if you are too worry about losing or winning and not putting attention to the music and the singing notes the whole song will get screwed up no matter of who sang the louder Wink

It's really pretty simple if you ask me - the secret is learning not to care too much about results. Objectivity comes naturally over time, once you have won and lost more games than you can remember, and realized how little it ultimately matters. (It is naturally also the secret to improving your game enormously!) Cool

Agree with Sunny Jim.  Relax and you play better.  But be objective, dont just move as if you dont even care.  Compared to things happening in the world today, chess is not important.  Once you made the bad move, try and come back.  You may find out something that helps you win games in the future you might otherwise have drawn.  Then its a positive in the end.  Think lucky and youll be lucky!Smile

Thank you all for your help and comments....I think just by being rational and seeing the big picture will help.

After all chess is just a game!
