New edition of My System coming out

Hey, I just saw this on amazon: My System & Chess Praxis: His Landmark Classics in One Edition Paperback – Oct 15 2016

I have heard so much about this book but don't know if I should buy it, since I am a 780 on blitz and until I reach a thousand in it, will not play the ''long'' form of chess. But I thought I would share this here. Bob Sherwood will be translating it (or has).

Not playing standard until you are good at blitz is a backwards idea.

This book is good for chess players of any strength under Master level, so I wouldn't bother waiting.

"... If you’re looking for an opening book, you should seek out well-known opening theoreticians. If it’s instruction, you look for an author that addresses players at your level (buying something that’s too advanced won’t help you at all). This means that a classic book that is revered by many people might not be useful for you. ..." - IM Jeremy Silman (2015)

[Nimzowitsch: A Reappraisal by Raymond Keene] explain's Nimzowitsch's thinking and influence on the modern game in a far more lucid and accessible way. ... "My System is an iconoclastic book. A lot of things in there is sheer provocation, and it does need an expereienced player to know what exactly must be taken at its face value.

I love 'My System', and I have read it cover to cover one dozen times, but suggesting it to a class player is an entirely different matter."

"[Some things] ARE wrong, and it's not easy for a non-advanced player to discover those wrong claims.

Nigel Short has claimed that 'My System' should be banned. Stratos Grivas says that the book is very bad. I don't share their opinion, but I am pretty sure that there are more useful reads for class players out there."

Woah . .  .

I suspect that something like John Nunn's Chess Course or his very good Understanding Chess Move by Move might be better books for someone who has an idea of how to play chess and wants to improve would be better choices. Although some will prefer the original Logical Chess Move by Move by Irving Chernev to be slightly better than Nunn's book for those starting out on tactics.

Any of these would be easier starting places than My System, but they are all great books.
