I'll never understand why some players get so bothered by having to play out their "clearly won" games. Afraid they'll blow it in the endgame maybe?

Sure, some players feel entitled, or have a big ego. They want resignation in positions where there is still some play left.

But some players have played 10s of thousands of games and certain routines really do become trivial. A position like his game I could win vs Carlsen with only 1 minute on my clock and blindfolded.

But someone as low rated as you would never understand.

If it were me and I saw your attitude on the forums, I would force you to prove you can win a won game. If you were unable to do so, I might just post the final result as a response to a post such as this ...

Sorry dude, but he resigned. Unlucky.

look, you can kill your entire family and you can call it ego, but don't call yourself a human being and stay the hell away from me

Unless you somehow changed your DNA, you're still a human being.

I refuse to think the topic opener is dead, maybe partly but not entirely.

Then it should be no bother to play through to the end.

I think you misunderstand, I'm saying it's tedious. The risk of losing isn't the issue.

For example count to 10,000 out loud. What? You afraid you'll mess up?

Of course not, what a silly notion. It's undesirable because it's tedious.

Here's a bullet game I played against a weak player while I was drunk. I used 16 seconds off my clock for the entire game. This means about 1/2 of my moves were made (premoves) before the opponent even moved and the other half were made after only 1 second. Maybe that gives you some idea of the kind of board awareness experienced players have.

When the position is simplified, I see all possible threats my opponent can play... not only in the current position, but all possible threats my opponent can create using multiple moves, and I see it almost instantly even if the game is moving at a fast pace.

And by the way, I've played beginners in OTB tournament chess before (the games last hours).

I'm never upset with a new player who doesn't resign and plays all the way to checkmate. If you're a new player, you shouldn't feel bad about playing to checkmate. Only resign if you think it's hopeless and you can't learn anything by watching your opponent's finishing technique.

So I'm not saying anything against new players. I am saying it's a tedious affair.

Short for Norbert, german construction builders who don't play chess

One may have a higher rating but there is always the possibility of the home run or Hail Mary pass.  There is nothing wrong with "playing it out."  All players have blundered at one time or another in a won game.  Resign if you want or not.  Player's choice.

MickinMD

It's his prerogative.  I just beat a Team Moscow opponent twice who played each game all the way out to checkmate, even though I was up a Q + B in one and up Q plus 2 more P's vs R in the other.  A least he made a move per day, though it added a week plus to each game.  But, he was obviously hoping I'd blunder and that is his right.  I don't have a problem with him: he was playing within the rules.

If you complain about someone not resigning then you are most likely showing poor sportsmanship. Not every player knows or realizes they lost and many expect that you may make a mistake and give them a chance to win. So suck it up and play.
Cherub_Enjel

Well, I wish my opponents right now would resign faster.

CookedQueen

 He resigned.

^ Worse... He blundered his queen and then resigned
