Not cheating but...
I didn't think it was cheating as I never let it make any moves, or even play ahead with possibilities. I only used it as an assesment of the current position, not future positions. But since is not how I play actual OTB games, this is the reason I chose not to do this anymore.
That is still computer assistance even if you don't look for any moves. If you are a beginner doing that and the position reads something like say +3.12 that means that white should already be up a minor piece or can win one. If you are not already up that piece and it can be won with 2 say a 3 move combo that will make you think hard until you find out how to get it thus giving you an adantage in a position you may have otherwise thought was more even.

The fact that this topic was even started by the OP means that something was pinching him at the back of his mind. In heart of hearts he knew what he did was wrong somewhere. He was hoping others would say that he was not cheating which would have helped him sleep a bit better. Unfortunately for him, any, I mean ANY, kind of analysis from an engine in the middle of a game is considered cheating. It is really very simple rule.

its just me and my chess board. Is that cool?
No.
Sorry Trysts, you are wrong...why am i not surprised. Here is the correct answer:
Message to another chess site where I used a home chess board in a correspondence game:
I could not find your policy's regarding cheating, but my question is, is it allowed in a correspondence game where there is a 14 day time period to make a move to analyze your next move using only a home chess board. Not software of course.
Dear Sir,
Our regulations forbids any usage of chess software's, You are allowed to analyze your game yourself using a chess board.

Seriously. You either lack any common sense altogether to think evaluating the positions with a chess engine is not cheating, or you are simply trying to pathetically fool the forum community.
Either way, I hope you have stopped cheating, and if not, get banned from the site for life.

Do you want me to start reporting you for spamming? Because *that* probably would get you muted.
I know how you feel. guilty but innocent.
