I'm really bad at 3D chess, like retarded. I only played a couple of times with my little cousin though and she was impatient so the "time setting" wasn't really favourable.
one dimensional vs real life chess.
When I visualise in my head I'm using a 2D board, I assume everyone does the same because it means there's less irrelavant data to process.
For those who are very unfamiliar to playing real life chess, but play a lot on the computer they may find it is slightly harder/will take slightly longer to recognise patterns, but nothing major. With more practice there really isn't much difference (in quality of play) at all, however it depends on what the person feels more comfortable with; being at home in the comfort of your room or sitting over a chessboard.
I was wondering if you were used to playing a lot of chess online, then all of a sudden play on an actual board, with people, would it be harder to visualize moves, catch attacks, etc. It seems like ones game might suffer after playing in one form, then transitioning, at least going from flat perspective to 3d/live. The other way around seems less noticeable.
