Since this IS the future: personalisation is the name of the game - so everyone gets something different!
Some people love this idea; other hate it. It doesn't seem to bring enough benefit to chess.com to justify the cost of implementing it.

Turn it off for everybody? The cost is still higher than you might imagine - and the rumpus it would cause might surprise you.
Ooh, I'd forgotten about this. What a ridiculous argument that ensued.
I'd still love to see the ability to suppress it -- whether I'm online or not and whether I want to share that fact should be 100% up to me.
I probably wouldn't use it, but I'd definitely like to see it implemented if only on principle. Any rumpus it might cause is entirely unjustified in my opinion, and I'd think that reading through the discussion in the link above should only serve to re-enforce this fact.
Yep, I also support it. It is such a natural feature and I'm puzzled why chess.com didn't implement it. And btw. gameknot has it implemented(hide online status). As for myself, I don't have any particular reason to turn it off(should chess.com ever implement it), I just don't like spies and stalkers, so it would be a good feature just to have it there(should I ever need it).
