I was playing a friendly game with a 1560. The game was 30/10 and it was a closed game. It was a dead draw until I screwed it up. Darn! Any advice on how to have avoided these errors? Thanks. You can check out the game here: http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=616459480

Sure.  Don't hang a piece. Smile

play through a grandmaster(or anyone, it doesn't even have to be a master) game and look at all the threats for each move. when you are playing think "what are his possible captures, checks, and threats" before each move.

Also note that all of this is strategic kind of stuff, typical of more closed positions.

Yeah.  The main thing is, don't hang a piece.
