Bruce Pandolfini books. I would never recommend his books.
Overrated Chess books?
Re: Fisher's "My Sixtry Memorable Games." It's interesting that a book that is considered on of the greatest ever by a long list of grandmasters, is considered overrated by so many patzers
Only slightly off-topic, does anyone know of a really good collection on Capablanca's games in English?
Maybe try Capablanca Move by Move.

I have that book, and it's not terrible, but it's not that comprehensive, and your are stuck with Cyrus Lakdawala's somewhat wearing prose style

There are some great Pandolfini books. (I had the wrong title of the book I particularly liked. I'll look it up and put it here later.)
Some of his books of his weren't so great. His Chess Life Articles were often fantastic though. I learned the triangle method of mating with B+N vs K from Pandolfini. He really is a great teacher.

I like Weapons of Chess.

Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess.
Its meant for absolute beginners and it does its job. I think it's the best book in that category.

My System.
This. So much this. I read/studied this book early this year. I really tried to like it. I sat with my board set up and put the effort in, and sure, I learned some things (like putting your rook on the 7th/2nd rank in your opponents territory) but it was such a slog. He drones on and on to make the simplest point, and I don't get on with his self-praising style either. I understand the importance of the book in history, but I think it must be the rose-tinted glasses that make people still recommend this book today. It's not even accurate even more (John Watson wrote an updated version, Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy)

I gave my copy away about a year ago. It's algebraic but you'll have to pay the whites of your eyes for it now.

Logical Chess Move by Move is eternally best
Taylor Kingston recently started doing a computer analysis of that book, and stopped. He stopped because there were far too many simple errors to make it worth his time.
Here's a link to his work on Nimzowitsch's My System. I have his permission to share it:
