Pawn promotion to block check

OK so heres my question.  Today I was in a rook pawn endgame.  I ended up walking my king and pawn down to the 7th rank.  I then moved my king to the 8th rank(d8).  My opponent moved his rook to a8 placing me in check.  I attempted to move my pawn from e7 to e8 to block the check and promote the pawn.  I was unable to move the pawn.  Is there a rule prohibiting this?  My opponent had no other pieces other than said rook and his king, so my pawn was in no way pinned.  Thanks with any input/clarification you can give me on this topic.

Do you have a link to the game or a diagram of the position?

No there isn't, but I seem to remember sombody else saying they couldn't prpmote their pawn before.

Yeah, not that the outcome would have been any different, but if you weren't able to promote your pawn in that position something must be wrong:

It was my most recent live game against Ankushgargg, not sure how to link. It would have been a draw had i made the move (my endgame is lacking) but the computer would not let me make the move. I tried multiple times (draw by repitition) and it would never even pull up the promotion window.

My only other thought is i was playing with the ipad app on my ipad. Im not sure if ive ever promoted with it before. Ill have to see if its an error within the app.

Hah, I post his game, and nobody knows what's wrong with the promotion being allowed?

(That, and this game is an example of having a 100% win into a draw)  It's like you didn't want to win with those last few moves!  It was 30/2 time, so definitely enough time to see.

I think it was punishment for not playing Rg1. :)

Just because the game started with 30 minutes doesn't mean that both players weren't playing almost entirely with their increment after 70-odd moves.
