Pawns

Greetings.

I am an amateur, around 1150 rating in Standard 30 minutes games here. I have stopped playing Rated games for now, and I am looking to improve the game by playing Unrated games on here and other chess applications on my Android.

One thing that I have noticed, which is a drawback in my game, I get my pieces out, castle, connect the rooks, But I don't really move pawns. I only move the d pawn and the e-pawn and I think that's it. 

I choose not to move any of the pawns in front of the king and try to protect the knight guarding the king as much as I can.

Also, in the mid-game, I often find myself down a pawn, when I think I am equal, which comes back to haunt me.

Are there any articles and/or suggestions that I can read and probably improve this one area of my game?
