i know it's probably petty, and I'm sure this thread has been done to death; but it's infuriating.

sorry...i accidentally cut off.. anyway.. after an early blunder, it's not uncommon for some opponents to simply walk off from the game it seems, but remain connected. after 7 plus minutes of boredom, I switch screens for a minute on my phone but leave the app running. when I return, I've been credited with a loss... why is it saying I disconnected but not them? the app was still running and it was their turn.

What time control were you playing? Maybe they made a subtle move and you lost on time

30 minutes.. no, when I came back they still hadn't made a move. I was on the other screen long enough to "auto resign" I suppose... about 3-4 minutes, but I don't understand that. if they haven't moved, why would i auto resign? are they leaving their screen up in hope that they'll be awarded a victory or playing on a pc and simply leaving the room? either way, it's super tacky. just resign like I or the vast majority of people do. don't punish your opponent for your blunder, ya know?

I think Android has the option to limit background apps' wifi usage.  It was years ago when I read it, so can't remember for sure, you've got to check it out.

If you don’t have the screen up, then you’re not considered connected.
Your opponent made a very sneaky move by leaving!
I face this too from time to time, but you ha e to sit there and wait. Next time just sit and reflect on your easy victory, or on life. At that point they know their only hope in winning is that you 1. Get bored and doing something like you did or 2. Actually disconnect and lose.
