Really though guys, I hope some other people are able to see the issue here with the discrepancy. There aren't many OTB events these days so chess.com has become by far the main source for people to play. If the main source is going against the official rules and classifications this is really not a good thing for the game.

I played 10 minute almost all the time. I'm trying to play 5+5 now to keep doing Blitz, and can't get a game at that time control. What the heck...

The issue is this does not line up with FIDE regulations and chess.com does not have the authority to officially make this change to the game. They have the authority to change their website, but 10-0 is still blitz no matter what anyone thinks.

I fully support the changes. A ten minute game shouldn't be the same as a three minute game, you have much more time to think and calculate and plan. Chess dot com have really got this one correct!

Lol if you enjoy aying 10 minutes, just carry on playing 10 minutes. Honestly some people.
My rating is two hundred higher in rapid than blitz, and I'd prefer playing longer time control than 10 minutes at that rating, either 15+10 or 30 minutes.

calculatorkid next thing you know chess.com is going to start labeling 15-10 classical, making the time controls shorter across the board. As someone who has a huge amount of respect for the classical game and its history, I am adamantly against this. chess.com can do whatever they want, but FIDE is the only one who can officially make a decision on this. If the #1 place where people play chess is going against official classifications/rules this is clearly not good for the game.

Perhaps, but you can see my point right? If they have this authority, and this is the trend, it may actually happen at some point.

L-chess is one thing, but if chess.com changes a classification a very large percentage of the chess world will just assume this is the way things are, when in reality it is not. I don't think I could quit chess if someone paid me a million dollars, but I will not be playing live on here any more. If there were a classical time control I might, but L-chess is the only good website with classical so I'm just going to play classical there.

I just hope Chess.com promotes 5+5 more. As someone who liked 10+0 Blitz before, I'm fine with 5+5 but so far it's taking an annoying amount of time to get a game.
I support these changes.
Having said that, I do agree that for the time being, the 15+10 games are going to be a lot tougher than the 10/0 games.
I mainly played 5/0 blitz, but I would occasionally play the odd 10/0 blitz, 20/0 rapid or 15+10 rapid game. I received a lot of rapid rating from this new system (now over 2000 rapid).
I guarantee that if I go back to the 15+10 or the 20/0 rapid games, against other 2000 rated rapid players, I'm going to get destroyed.
But in a few weeks, the ratings will slowly stabilise and this problem will sort itself out in the future.
