Petrosian

Tigran Petrosian was featured in "Life" magazine on April 11, 1969, just prior to losing his title to Boris Spassky.

A friend got to drive Petrosian around during one of the Lone Pine tournaments in the early 70's.  He said he was very gracious, and loved to talk.  

I only know his English weren't good, and on top of that he had hearing problems- there's a Russian anecdote about the latter.
