at the cinema or theater it would be extremely rude to bring a chess set and start playing chess.
the first challenge would of course be to see the board in the darkness but you could bring glowing chess set.
It would be very annoying to all that is trying to see the movie.
If one were visting Royalty.

My situation: I was just wondering right now, would it be rude to bring my chess set to someone's birthday party this Thursday? She is having it at a restaurant and inviting many people. I don't want to take the attention off of her because it's her night. At the same time, I know people carry their chess sets around sometimes to have pick up games. What do you think I should do? Thanks
My Cousin was having his birthday at his own house. He had some of his neighborhood friends there. He had left for a ride on his brother's bike. I was sitting like a dumbo till I spotted my cousin's brand-new never-to-be-used-again chess set. I took it out. All his friends rushed to the table where I was opening the board and started arguing who will play.
If it was supposed to be his night, He wouldn't have given it up by not hiding the chess set when he went out...
If your friend likes plauing chess, then you MUST take it with you! Let her sit at the board and play.

Good answer! And that sounds like fun! Didn't pan out that way for me cause my friends aren't interested in chess. Well, one of them WILL play but she's not interested in improving, I don't think. And that's okay too.
