@Dennis_Petersen if a pause is what you wish, I will oblige out of respect for you and your company.
Plastic Legend Alegria Staunton Chess Set has been made in Pro Line Ebony and Boxwood
Dear Mike , Please do not Worry . Quality from Legend Products will be finest . We stand Behind Legend Products. Not only Algeria but many designs ,Legend Products will offer . We will work as one Company.
I have no doubt Dennis will only have the top quality. My inference was about price. Will Dennis be able to order his initial 25 sets for the same wholesale price agreed upon and be able to keep his price at $349.
Thank you @Pawnerai
Legend Products and Chess Empire both have demands and everything needs to be worked out. I think a cooling off period is needed on both sides. I intend to wait until Monday to discuss the matter further with Chess Empire.
I think the pause is the best thing at the moment.
I am going off topic briefly and do not want to continue this subject in this particular forum you might continue it in the Forum "Ethics and Morals" that @Eyechess created it likely is more appropriate there.
In the meantime I would like to point out something many of you do not really think about. I have observed it going on and so I will use this opportunity to bring it up.
Retailers in the US are innovators, we strive to create. We want unique products that define our company. We place in many cases our financial standing into these new products.
When a company on the west coast does well it enables our companies to help our communities. Duane Barber who previously owned American Chess Equipment, Now Shelby Lohrman, Elliot Neff of the Chess House all have been big supporters of Scholastic Chess in their states. We all could have made more money by putting our money down on the Black Jack tables in Las Vegas. We know first hand what exposure to chess, and chess competition does for a child's mind. It is life changing and enriching.
We act as a buffer to bring you the finest products, in 99 percent of the cases with a small american chess business you will get the product and service you desire.
When a man like Shelby Lohrman, American Chess Equipment, puts likely his life savings into his business, bends over backwards to innovate and create for you. Be responsible enough to support his efforts because it directly effects what he brings to the market in the future.
Simply put support those who support you.
Dennis has both boards and sets in a “Pro Line” category. These are his upper line of equipment. https://www.legendproduct.com/index.html

Thanks. I thought it referred to the ebony but apparently it is a marketing term used by legend to mean the set is " top of the line"
I had an exchange with Gaurav a couple of weeks ago myself regarding this matter. He told me the sets would be made in August. Now the number of sets to my knowledge is 5, the number of knights they tell me are remaining as shown in my original offering. In my conversation after his brothers indiscretion of selling Alegria sets on the Chess Empire Web site they stated to me not many were sold. I can tell you this they had sent me a full sample set which was a perfect recreation of all the pieces except the knights were unrecognizable and the ebony although perfectly black showed extensive lathe marks which I commented on to Guarav. I believe what occured is when they made the knights appearing on page 1 of my first offering their were limited numbers of knights carved. The same thing likely occured with the number of full sets one of which came to me as a sample. Guarav I will assume needed additional time to insure the wood cured properly to remake the Ebony pieces to Legend standards. Due to a misunderstanding over the knight in the original picture posted 4 or five knight carvers did samples afterwards, all of which never matched the plastic Alegria Knight or the First knight that I was actually happy with in my first offering. The first offering was priced based on a one time agreement to begin doing business after their father Rajesh passed away who I had done business with since around 1992. I believe in Guarav's frustration and expense in developing the Alegria Knight he withdrew our original deal and has raised the price per set making it likely at or above the $499 they were sold on his web site. I have no idea what the final cost will be at this point because he has told me I will also have to pay the shipping. I can tell you I had promised one set to the Maryhill Museum for their permanent collection . There are over 20 people on the reserve list for the 20 sets first advertised. There is no telling how they will all take the news of the cost increase. Guarav made a statement that he would continue to work on the Alegria set, It is all I know. It is all about money I am sure at this point. I want the Alegria Knight caved as close to the plastic knight as humanly possible. It was carved in wood originally for the molding process I know it can be done, at what cost I remain clueless. I will give Guarav the benefit of keeping his word. So I will give him some more time he said after I see what he sends me we can proceed and refine the knight. I can tell you this I will keep this reserve list and if at any time in the future a production of 20 Alegria sets are made at whatever cost the original people on this list will get first crack at buying a set I owe that much to them for waiting.
Thanks for the update, Dennis. The Alegria set is an outstanding set in plastic. If they nail the wood version it will be very much sought after.

First I did not get my name on the top 20 list in time. Would I buy it yes because Dennis assures his customers they will get only the top quality since I know he checks over every piece.
With the QG I would not be surprised if the original $349 goes to about $549 or more due to an increased cost from The Chess Empire. Too bad The Chess Empire can't stick to the original quote they agreed upon for at least the first 20 sets then rasing them thereafter. I do realize you raise product prices when the demand goes up but you also fulfill the product with the agreed-upon price.
So I really do not know what to think. I know Legend Products is righteous and Dennis will try to hold down the price for those 20 people who signed up first, but he also may never get the sets.
Of the retail outfit the chess empire, the same outfit that shafted so many loyal vendors, including but not limited to, the house of Staunton , you just cannot trust these pirates
It was more of a rethorical statement. As qorgeous as the pieces are, this thread is getting quite old, and as far as I can see, nothing has changed. We, as potential customers, still can not make an order.
Unfortunately Guarav never kept his word. He kept delaying making the sets for the remaining knights. Almost a year later he offered to again resume making the five sets, then proceed with a new order. Well at this point I considered it empty words. He had made me look like a fool to my customers and the set promised to the Maryhill Museum.
My son and myself are interested in finding a company to make our wood sets. Any company in India that has a knight carver that can duplicate the Alegria knight exactly as it appears in plastic should contact us. They will have to stand behind their work and guarantee their work for a period of one year. We look forward to meeting you, you will enjoy our exclusive business for the next 30 years.
