when I watched the England and Wales cricket team win the world cup in cricket for the British nations spirits I was reminded of the time I played with a British flag as well as  aname tag at the isle of man masters 2014. I am welsh and English so I refused to play under either federation so I ended up playing for Britain in a compromise which may have got the arbitor in trouble.

we are about equal with the scotts but we have traditionally been more pro English infact the idea of britain was created by Welshmen so that instead of fighting the English we joined with them against the world.

I can't imagine what it's like to play chess under the British flag, or under any other flag than the American flag.  I can tell you one little secret though.  You know you're about to have a pleasant evening with a patriotic Canadienne when you see the maple leaf shaved down there.

This is an extremely offensive comment.  I am a child of the Southwest, where people who came from Mexico are ubiquitous, Spanglish is common currency, and we are all multicultural.  Do not you or the moderators doubt my ability to light up this thread with obscenities in Spanish.

Could have sworn that was the Irish? And before anyone says anything... Me father as his father and mother before, all had100% Irish blood in there veins. Thats where my screen name comes from. My last name is Dooley which comes from O'Dubhlaoch (Gaelic). O'Dublaoch translates as descendant of Dubhlaoch. Dubhlaoch translates as Dark Hero. Which is perfect for me as I've only played chess for two weeks and it appears that I'm better at playing as black.

A bit odd seeing an Irishman posting under an American flag.  Also, "their".  My screen name comes from the fact that I live in Oregon and I suck at chess.

Did you not get my post was about ancestory or has liberalism rotted your brain out. Oh thats right liberals only care about illegal immigrants.

Internet spell checking? Really?

OK, I'll try posting it again.  It's "ancestry", you dumb racist bass tarde.

did you forget Owen Glyndwer my friend , he could hardly be described as pro English , instead he fought hard to free Wales from londoom rule

I always thought dubh meant black , but I can see how it also may mean dark ,

for those of you who draw on your ancestry , my respect , as you respect where you come from

I cant stand cricket though , give me a game of football anyday

If you can do piracy under the British flag, why not playing chess? All that gold and silver, we had stolen it honourably!

I know who Owen Glyndwer is from Shakespeare. I don't think the previous commenter is a real Irishman, or even a real American for that matter.  No cricket or football over here, it's Lakers4ever.  I was a Laker fan before Jeanie Buss, the current managing owner, was born.

You see its against fide regulations to play as british because the Russians want us to fight each other in britain sowing division as 4 separate chess entities.

This is a chess site you bunch of jingoist clowns. Spread your daft comments re nationality elsewhere on the web. There are enough freaks out there interested in this pointless drivel but not here.

I don't see your problem , does the history of the british isles upset you ?

you have the choice as do we all to not get wound up by forum threads ,

who knows if you stick around you might learn something new and who doesn't like that

Avatar of cap78red

I am very pro-British seeing the English as delightfull neighbours so I think Glyndwr was wrong

IS IT NOT OUR CHRISTIAN DUTY TO GET ALONG WITH OUR NEIGHBOURS

Avatar of wollyhood
