its a good book if you want to get into positional play for the first time, and yes you will need a board if you want to fully work with the positions and have some kind of progress. pasive studying is not recomended, if you want to really improve your chess you have to make a full analisis of the positions given by the authors book in order to get some progress.

Has anyone read this book by Kotov? And if so, how was the experience. Is it necessary use a chess set or chessbase to see the positions after say 30 moves?? Or should i do it in my head!!
