Playing slower instead of faster

I used to be able to finish a game in like 5 or so minutes. Nowadays it tends to be more like 10 or 12 minutes. I didn't think that was so bad until I thought about my opponents time. If he also taken 10 minutes it means I'm getting like 4 times as slow as I used to play.

Does anyone know if you get slower as you get better? Because I thought it was the other way.

Well I certainly know that you get slower as you get older...

I wouldn't worry about it.  It might just mean that as the quality of your play and your opponents play increases, nobody falls for the simple stuff anymore, so you have to work harder, dig a little deeper, which will take more time.  Besides, GM Edmar Mednis was a weak (for a GM) speed player because he was always taking the time to play "correctly."  But give him the time to work out the details.....
