If you aren't sure if you already made your picks or not, you can make them again (if available). I'll always take the last prediction made.

I made a group for Berlin Candidates and London Championship. No activity expected, so no excessive spam of notification, except firstly - ideas for prediction and secondly - updates about scores etc.

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is why Vishy hasn't retired!!!!!

Very interesting, huh! happy.png Wouldn't expect that, although it isn't such a big upset. At the end of the day, he beat Carlsen for the 2nd time in WCh rapid in the last 3 years.

@NewArdweaden, I surely won't remind you to make those predictions for Speed Championship. Would be nice to go into Wijk aan Zee with a healthy ~10-point lead tongue.png

Well, the World Championship is the culmination of many tournaments, this championship is just 1 (tbh, it's just a tournament with a big label stuck on it and some decent prize money). I would much rather see qualification tournaments, and then it comes into a final week long tournament. Maybe something like the London Super Blitz tournament that I played in, where you have group stages followed by a knockout. Imagine 4 groups of 16 playing a double round robin over 3 days, and then the top 4 in each group going through to a knockout stage over the next 4 days. Obviously the rapid would have to be smaller groups (maybe 8 groups of 6, triple round robin over 3 days, and then top 2 going into the knockout)? But that would be an exciting format, that mimics world cup competitions in different sports (and then it's a spectator sport! well, sort of).

Thomas, I agree. That's why I don't give much credit to such WChs, though anyway, an awesome result by Vishy!

Indeed. He played 38 total games, if you count the 2 blitz tiebreaks, and lost 1. That kind of record would be impressive even in classical chess.

Oh I'm not doubting it's a difficult tournament to win (obviously it is, otherwise I would have won it tongue.png ), but to call it a World Championship just seems odd, especially as it's only one tournament and one part to it. If you took the top players from the swiss, and then played a round robin or knockout matches, then I think it could be a worthy championship (and this is what they used to do). Make it last 5 days for each format at least.

@ArgoNavis, your username will be updated after this tourney, no worries.

@NewArdweaden, I surely won't remind you about your predictions, so if you make it in the next 24 hours, or if someone else don't remind you, I'll happily take the win here tongue.png Now just hope some of my "enemy" is reading this and will send you a message or something tongue.png

Btw, looks like we might get a new record here. Already 90+ members and with some spamming before the match on ChessTV, we may reach 110 or more! happy.png

Suprisingly I kept the deadline in mind Laughing I definitely don't want to give you an easy victory

Well... with one more event to go, I'm 22 points below #3, and 22 points above #5. I guess I can be pretty confident what my final standing will be...

@macer75, you're still theoretically in chase for the 1st place wink.png

And I was really close for this one. A draw in the final 960 game would have given me a perfect score.

If only the total score for this event had been higher...
