Unfortunately FM Bluebird was banned for cheating. I sincerely hope this wasn't due to "cheating" by using engines in the games played here!
I can't imagine it was for unrated games.

It was clear we could and would use engines. I am very sad at what happened to FM Bluebird. He was also playing in the Ponziani tournamentt where engines were allowed.
I have never played the Ponziani and have only faced it very rarely if ever, however I have found the games and analysis on this thread really interesting as well as the discussion about this opening. At the very least I will feel more confident when I next see this opening played against me. Good thread
I hope some brave person with a very good chess engine will take up the challenge of bongcloudftw [to play out the endgame agreed drawn]
How this 7 game match got started. There was a game posted on the Ponziani Opening forum between FirebrandX [he is current US Correspondence Champion] and Brian Wall [he is the main advocate of the Fraser Defense and has played it for years and posts on the Ponziani Opening forum very often. The game ended in a draw. I thought I cxould do better than that with Black and also had some other innovations and wanted to try them out against the best players possible and the best engines.
Of course, there were other reasons for this thread including the entertainment value.
Here is that game... FirebrandX vs Brian Wall
Another game finished FM JMB1020 vs Ponz111 0-1
The current score is 4 wins and 1 draw for ponz111 with 2 games remaining of this 7 game match.
Ponziani may be "silly" but it has a high success rate. Look at my former team, Ponziani Power, now ranked #12 out of how many teams? [681?]
And I think their ranking will go up as I have seen their 3 current games.
Hey ponz question for you. Im currently playing in the USCF correspondence tournament do you have any advice for a person thats playing against players rated 2000 and up. The highest person that im playing is rated 2400ish.
returnofxpchesser Are chess engines allowed in that tournament?
If so, do you have a chess engine? [I need more details] Is this a preliminary round? What tournament is it?
Nope no chess engines are allowed and its the 2013 golden knights tournament i dont know exactly what round is it, but i barely just started

If I remember the Golden Knight it was a 3 round tournament of 6 games per round so if you do well in the prelims you advance to semis of 6 games and so on. Not a tournament I would choose as you have to win 18 games in a row over a period of years to do well.
The problem is that even if no chess engines are allowed some of the players will use chess engines and you will then not have much of a chance.
In today's correspondence I would only play in tournaments where chess engines allowed. I am a very old timer from before chess engines were any good and they were not used.
I am sorry but I would advise not to play in such a tournament. I know that is not what you probably wanted to hear?
