1. Trick question because (1,8) isn't on the curve y = 16x^2 + 3. 8 not = 19. But maybe I don't get it.

The answer to this question is not debatable. The answer is clearly the egg. All chickens hatch from eggs. That is a fact. That means that the animal from which chickens evolved most likely laid eggs as well. That means that one generation before the animal was considered a chicken, the animal laid an egg. And from the egg came a chicken.

It's been 25 yrs, but here goes.
first derivative = slope.
y = 4x^2 + 3
dy/dx = 8x + 3
at x =1, dy/dx = slope = 8 + 3 = 11
so y = 11x + b,
b = y - 11x = 7 - 11 = -4.
equation for slope at 1,7 is:
y = 11x - 4
