Promoting pawns: but not to a queen

I guess if either the diagonal or horizontal movement/ coverage of the Queen would result in a stalemate, you'd have to choose either a bishop or a rook...
Perhaps if the promotion square is covered by your opponent but you have it counter covered... you could promote to a lesser piece to dissuade your opponent from taking the piece and losing the exchange....

Rooks are safer when you already have a queen on the board and you are already up on material.

I never said you should not promote to a rook with a queen on the board. Not sure about your point.

I promote to rook to use that checkmate myself. Just make sure the rook is to the side with the king.
