how you dress (and smell)  is very important when playing a tournament....first visual  can intimidate your opponent (even if you dont recognize it).  Personally I like to see men dressed nicely....classic formal wear...no tie necessary....impecable shoes and matching belt.

One of the worst things is playing someone who has a bad cold and they keep blowing their nose on a snot rag and touching the pieces. I remember seeing a video clip of Garry Kasparov doing this.

I'd like 2 c that one! If u can find it, either post it here or post a url.

Dressing shabbily is a sign of the times. It's universal.

Have you seen any of the emails: The People of Walmart? I have friends who send me those, and I get a good laugh every time.

Even the Great Kasparov catches a cold once in a while!

Back in the day, (1981) I took a one from a guy on a rival high school's team who had been undefeated for a year and a half. I was wearing a bright tie dye, had hair down to my belt line and a Rambo style headband. I've never regretted it, back then people felt comfortable swearing at guys like me just walking down the street. Score one for the good guys, I didn't much care for his starched shirt either.

How could someone be kicked out of a tournament just because of their clothing g

The most important thing in chess, is to win BEFORE you've reached the board, Not AFTER

The correct attire and posture for ANY chess game on earth! as demonstrated by me!

Please take careful note of the correct posture to demonstrate the least amount of interest in your opponents position whilst yet still remaining regal and formal at the same time.
