Proud Father

I'm just posting to brag about my 11 year old son beating me at chess last night. I'm not that great at chess, but I have taught him a lot. I guess I'm ok at standard and tactics and such, and I do study, but I don't hold a candle to most on this site. Anyway he's been watching chessnetwork and doing a lot of tactics on chess tempo which upped his game a lot. Last night he delt me my first loss against him. And I was really trying this time lol. Very proud of him. 

this has happened with my son recently as well.  and much like you (probably) you have watched your son progress and grow.

at 11 he is beating up a 1800 rated player.  that's a lot of potential! : curious

have you guys made plans to play tournaments together?

this is the next step with me and my son.

I taught my girls how to play, and had dreams of us going to tournaments together.  Unfortunately, they had other ideas.

thegreat_patzer I think my son has a lot of potential, in whatever he chooses to do. He's a lot smarter than I was at his age. Right now the only thing that gets him to put down the video game controller is homework, baseball and chess with dad. Pretty sure his main motivation when it comes to chess is beating me lol. 

In the game we played last night I missed a fork which lost me the exchange. He held onto his material advantage into the endgame and I had to resign. His games are getting better. Like his dad, he takes a long time to think though, so maybe it's time I put him on the clock. 

Not sure about tournaments. The only person I play over the board with is him. I'm pretty happy about having a lifetime opponent within my immediate family though.  I'm happy for you and your son having the same thing. Take care :)
