I like to play everything :3

StanleyTarrot

I like Bullet and Chess960

Ziryab

what I play the most is not what I like best. OTB at classic time controls is what I like. Blitz and rapid online is what I play the most.

Daily.  I enjoy the time spent contemplating the different possible outcomes for different moves.  Also, each game develops a personality.

The search for truth in correspondence chess is appealing. Alas, after 25 years of continuous play—postal, email, and then web-based—I have almost completely given it up.

Cyborg chess, such as one finds at ICCF, is too time consuming. While correspondence where engines are banned is too often not engine-free.

I love the thrill of blitz... But if I could play classical just as much that would be #1.

I don't really consider blitz or bullet real chess, especially bullet that's basically moving whatever you think looks safe when in most cases it isn't at all. I don't really consider those time control's real chess to be honest 10 min blitz is about making what I like to call "half decent" move's fast, I play it though. But I like to think more in depth on my move's. That's why I prefer standard 20 minute's or daily games.

I consider it chess because I've gotten to the point where some of my games are high enough quality to be useful to look over and learn from.

Either way, this forum is just about our opinions so let's not argue tongue.png

They don't consider blitz/bullet chess to be real chess.

Suzki

Daily (1day) and rapid (30min and 15+10). I don't like play blitz or bullet much, because I just can't think that fast and I make a lot of mistakes and blunders or lose on time.

marqumax

classical

blueemu

Daily. I prefer to put a lot of thought into my blunders.

Derek-C-Goodwin

Old codger here, I like daily best. Just getting into 960 a little. I wish we could play 3check as a daily.

That's rubbish, coolout. I used to play classical tournaments and blitz between the rounds. I used to win the tournaments quite often and my blitz also improved.

I don’t blitz between rounds. It doesn’t seem to help me. Many do.

Tonight at my local club we had a blitz tournament. Five minutes plus two second delay. The players I lost to finished in third and fourth. The winner lost only to me. I finished in second with 7 wins and two losses.

Here’s one of my games. I’m Black.

I would never play the Stafford Gambit in slow chess, but I won three games with it tonight. All were less than fifteen moves.

GMegasDoux

Rapid. I am trying to improve my general game and need the time to think through the positions applying the theory. Playing blitz and bullet games ruins my habbit building for the approach to the game and my tempo as I start playing to fast in all controlls. Once I get to a decent level of consistent play I will go back to blitz. But I do prefer 10 minute or 10+1.

I like daily usually 3 days a move. This gives me plenty of time to work out multiple long lines before each move, plus it’s nice to see a game develop over a few months. That way I maximise the pain of every crushing defeat I suffer through my usual blind blunder fest style of play.

Blitz

Blitz helps to an extent. Either way, this isn't what this topic is about, is it?

Yeah but maybe for kinda ok players it should be fine too (like I’m not just learning but not great either)

It is not OK, unless of course improving at chess is not in your agenda.

I've been on a bullet binge that past two weeks. My rating is down and my blood pressure is up. I think a walk in the woods will reverse the trend.
