Question about playing the computer

I agree, jtucker. The real losers are the cheats. I really fail to understand their mentality.

For me I'm just trying to learn and get better, I'll probably start playing humans after I feel more confident, as for cheating I don't understand why people would wanna cheat, it's like cheating in golf, you may win but you know in your own mind that you lost and what are you gaining? it's not like your winning a prize or something

I have no idea how new you are, what you know and don't know, but you might find this useful

And this list is a little overwhelming IMO, but if nothing else look at these 4 common ones:

Fork, Pin, Discovered attack, and removing the defender.

When I was new, learning the opening principals and a few tactical themes helped a lot.

This is a good topic, but, speaking as a moderator, veering into cheatingland will just get it locked . Since I'm sure nobody wants that, it might be prudent to stay on-topic.

@batgirl sorry to get off topic, it wasn't intentional

What I will say about playing real people as opposed to a computer is that the kinds of mistakes and such you will see tend to be somewhat different. I think there is value doing both. I play against the computer a lot, but I don’t think it is good to make a sole diet of it. I get my human play here playing daily and blitz. I also go to a local club for over the board play.

As for whether someone is using assistance, don’t worry about it. They are playing however at the rating they have.
