Question about Transpositions in Fritz 14

Hiya!

I'm building opening repertoires with Fritz 14.. Sometimes transpositions occur. How do I deal this, that - for example - after a position has been reached and it is a transposition, then it should point to the already analyzed variant (or something like that)?

Otherwise I'll have double entries!

It's to do with the fact that the entries in your repertoires in Fritz are treated as individual games and not cross-referenced with each other. Any analysis of a position or opening is stored with that game or repertoire entry only. To do what you want and handle the transpositions requires the setup of a program and database that specifically does this. Such a program is Chess Position Trainer.

Actually I am using CPT! But I don't update from within CPT. I simply import the PGN I exported from Fritz. So I hoped Fritz would have some transposition recognizer built in their database systems. Otherwise I have to use CPT side by side with Fritz to check whether it's a transposition.

Hi Machariel. I think the transposition handling by CPT is one of their big selling points compared with Chessbase or Fritz. If you look at the CPT manual it goes into some detail of the differences between these programs and CPT. CPT also has the spaced repetition feature for learning the openings. There are pluses and minuses for all of these programs. The database functions within Fritz are fairly basic, but much more extensive in Chessbase. The closest you could come to CPT with Fritz is to merge your repertoire files into one PGN, but this would only work for individual openings. It would be a massively complicated PGN for multiple openings.

Yes I agree. CPT is superior when it comes to that. I love that nifty little program. But how the heck do I disable the scheduler and/or its notifications?

Not too sure, but try Reset Scores in the Training section. This resets all repetition dates. If you then just work in the repertoire section, hopefully you won't get notifications until you start training your openings.

Yeah I think it's the only way to suppress those warnings. Thanks for your feedback!
