Question for Chess Players: Do you ever intentionally not play a game to maintain your high rating?

Hey Everyone! Just a genuine question below: 

Do you/have you ever intentionally not played a chess game in an effort to maintain your high chess rating? Personally, there have been times when I knew my rating was high, and for that reason, I did not engage in a game for fear of losing that rating. I want to know if anybody can relate to that experience, especially if you just recently broke 1000 rating, and don't want to risk going back to the 900s.

I’m not good enough for that to mean anything. The only way I’ll get better is by playing people who are better than me.

Yeah, usually I stop playing chess when my depression rear it's head or there's a lot to do irl.
