Question for experienced players

Hi,

I noticed that when watching a game between two very seasoned but evenly matched players, it seems that they always have the same pieces captured at the same time. When one captures the other's bishop, for example, usually the reciprocal follows. Even deep into the game, they'll both have, let's say, 5 pawns, a knight and a king. I tested this out with level ten computers and the same thing happened. I'm curious as to why this is, as I'm sure there's a reason.

I'm not exactly experienced, but I can say trading knight for a bishop is a little bit out of the balance of power. See unless it give you a advantage, bishop for a knight or a knight for a bishop is not benefactory.
