Racism on live chess

Opposition, too, is more complex than racism. Indeed, some of the racists whom I know will argue for hours that they are not racist, even to the point of naming every black friend and praising the man who made Godfather's profitable by ruining their pizza.

SPARTANEMESIS

I've heard similar statements.  Its really annoying.

I can't be bothered to read this whole thread, but I do hope that someone has pointed out that chess subliminally invokes a racist mindset. Black and white armies, with white being automatically given an advantage at the start of the game.

I seriously doubt the idea came to the "inventors" of the game, if such persons ever existed.

BTW, it's the opposite at Go. Does that mean the Japanese are racists the other way ?

Almost certainly

How did a thread on racism turn into a debate between meat eaters and vegetarians?

Btw not all people are vegetarian because of the idea killing animals for food is morally wrong (though i would counter your statement of sentimental nonsense by pointing out that is your opinion - everyone should be entitled though to their own and some may vary from yours)

i am just not that keen on the taste of most meats i've tried - although i will eat fish

This is the best argument I've heard for vegetarianism since the time when I heard, "I can't eat meat.  It makes me ill."

The whole "moral vegetarian" thing is just disguised hatred of plants.

if you eat fish you are not a vegetarian

meat makes me physically ill because i feel so bad for the animals

That makes her a pescatarian.

In other words; They are racists if they do not have liberal black role models. If they like conservatives, it doesn't count. What a moron.

No. That's not what I said at all.

Speaking of prejudices, did you know that many Germanic orchestras didn't allow female musicians even until the late 20th century.  For instance, this orchestra in Vienna is all men.  Bernstein (the conductor)died in 1990, so this is probably from the 80's.

So, how did a bunch of liberal musicians deny women while many other institutions were not?  Strange.

i didn't say i was a vegetarian - i was just pointing out others like me might not like the taste

anyway my main point was that somehow a thread on racism became a thread on diet ... (what's worse is i believe that switch came after a monkey and curry comment...)

I'm aware that there are vegetarians that don't eat meat because of the taste or texture. I didn't think it was worth mentioning at the time because there isn't much of a debate there. Most people would understand that viewpoint.

What's worse now is that this thread has the potential to become a debate about liberals and conservatives. Political debates are a no-no and could get this thread locked.

The marbling is good on a few of the fat cats who have been feeding at the trough of lobbyists, but they would leave a bitter aftertaste.

I missed the whole liberal vs. conservative part.  To be honest, I sort of lost interest and stopped following the thread.  If one assumes that all vegans are liberal and only conservatives eat meat, I'd see why this false belief of the thread evolving into a political debate came from another false belief.  Of course I really don't know.

Something I thought about is tough questions by children.  People always seem to think "Where do babies come from" and things like "What is death" are hard, but how does one answer "Where does this bacon come from?"  Does one say "Remeber Babe?"

Another one might be "What does the Count eat?"  Has any one else noticed that this lovable Sesame Street character is a blood thirsty killer?
