6. He has a fetish for filing lawsuits, namely ridiculous ones.

I half expect him to withdraw mid tournament.

Agreed. But I just hope he plays, period. I have a suspicion that he is going to make some excuse at the last minute and not play, which would be disappointing. Even though I haven't been particularly nice to Ray in the past, I do want to see him play well here, for some reason.

When I was 1700 OTB I played one 1700 teenager. Time control was 90+30 and the kid finished the game with more than 90 minutes (he played it like a 1 minute game).

I won in the end, but it was an equal game all the way to the endgame... of course it helped that he thought during my time and I was playing very slow (I almost ran out of time).

All this to say... playing quickly isn't necessarily a death sentence... but mental fortitude counts for a lot in a long tournament against tough opponents. There will always be disappointments along the way... and I feel like these disappointments would be particularly intense if you go into it overestimating yourself by a few 100 points (and in general have unresolved, pathological, anger/sadness issues).

So yeah, again, I'd like to know how he does... and it's too bad there will be a large psychological factor.

I don't even need to search for this to tell you with confidence that he hasn't solved Chess and that you've wasted your money. This thread could even be interpreted as an advert or scam thread, so don't be surprised if this thread gets editted or deleted. I'm a quite surprised that it has survived so long.

Only read the first sentence of the first post.

Thinks he has big news:  "Chess isn't solved!"

Thanks for clearing that up for us smart guy.

So long as no one else loses money this way, I'm happy.

This place is beginning to look like the Gordon threads on alt.kooks.usenet.

@stupidgm. He was here. Many times. What a legend. Thankfully.

@raygordonteacheschess lasted a day.

Perhaps the donteach part was honest.

Actually I stand corrected.

As an alternative to the Candidates Tournament I propose a fantasy tournament with the following participants:

1. Ray Gordon

2. The Backyard Professor

3. Lyudmil Tsvetkov

4. Igors Rausis

5. Dewa Kipas

6. Tigran L. Petrosian

7. Borislav Ivanov

8. The Turk

What do you think the final standings will look like?

We need prizes to get things started

Prize 1 legal representation against player 1

Prize 6 peepee diapers

I remember those accounts here. RoundMoundofUnsound sounds like a good description. Maybe he was just always trolling the whole world.

Prize 2 Internet legend status and a lifetime of enthusiasm

Prize 5 all death threats originating in Indonesia automatically returned to sender, free of charge.

Prize 8 player 8 may be taken home and placed on an attractive rug in your study.

Saying he solved chess, then not playing with anyone was standard Gordon operating procedure. He promoted himself as a seduction guru on the alt.seduction.fast newsgroup, but never produced a picture of himself in the company of a woman.

This is some of the funniest sh*t I've ever seen. Ray Gordon sent literally hundreds of completely insane threatening messages to this YouTuber. Starts at 24:40

I admit I was laughing at parts, but come on... making fun of a mentally ill person for 4 hours... I don't know...

But ok, 1:18:30 had me laughing, what makes it even funnier is he's just guessing, but he gets it right.

Yeah lol. "The only thing you could learn from Ray Gordon would be to do the opposite of whatever he says about chess".

Pretty much spot on, considering Ray's advice is to only play bullet + only study openings.

Later, after having read Korobov's name a few times, when reading it again throws in "doesn't exist" lol.

Is anyone familiar with Ray Gordon who claims to have solved chess? I watched one of his videos and he seems to be sincere so I sent him fifty bucks for his materials. From what I see he might be a new Nimzovich and I didn't want to miss out.  Has anyone had experience with him and the system he is teaching? Did I waste my money or is he on the up and up?

You wasted your money, either that claim is true or not.
