Re: Accepting Defeat

I am currently playing a higher rated player. I am one move from mate but he repeatedly puts me in check to avoid defeat. Is there a rule that comes in to play in this condition? If there is at what point does it come in to play?

It may be that i am misunderstanding this situation. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Well, if he can repearedly put you in check, you are not one move away from mate now, are you?

There has been a spate of these topics lately, I really don't understand why people expect their opponent to make a losing move when they can draw?

If you can't escape the checks, just offer him a draw and a rematch. It's the right thing to do.

Without seeing the board, it sounds like a drawn game. Your opponent has no obligation to let you win if he can still get you in check. Good luck, anyway

It's all been said here already.  If I was your appointment in this game, and I could put you in perpetual check to avoid the loss, I'd do it in a minute.  A draw is a draw and it sure beats a loss.  With the 50-move rule, (no pawns moved and no pieces captured), it's still a draw.  The three repeat rule (the board repeats itself three times in one game) is still a draw.  SO...if you can't get out of check, the only option you have is to ask for a draw.  And hopefully, he has a higher rating than you - thus you still gain some points out of the situation.
