Real life rating changes!!!

Okay. So this is how it is. I have never played in any tournament before (that is aside from those back in elementary school when I had to beat the chess teacher because everyone else was just so darn aweful). However, I've estimated myself to have a USCF rating of 1750-1800 based on opponents I have dispatched in the past (online and otherwise). Dont' mind my online rating, I have 10 completed games and no loses (unless you count the accidental forfeit on my second move Wink). I'm curious to know what rate of improvement some wiser and more learned people have had in their ratings from such a level in the past before reaching 2000+ USCF (1900+ FIDE).

I get the sense the turn based ratings are pretty inflated on this site... even the live chess ratings compared to USCF seem high... I've found live tournament play at a regular chess club is much more competitive, and suspect you could subtract as much as 200 pts from your worst rating here as a good baseline to where you stand...

From talking with many other players, it seems that with due diligence, most people could become class A or B players at a pretty linear pace.  But after that, there tends to be a pretty sharp plateau for the majority of players.

I get that estimated rating based on teh ratings of people I've beaten/lost to. That's about where I fit. Obviously the ratings are very inflated because there's no way anyone here is a 2900+ lol.

I started playing in December of 1972, my first rating was 1702. I don't recall when I became an 2000+ player but I have the feeling it was in the early 1980's. but I do remember that I was 2200+ by 1985. Why? Because my goal was of course 2200 so 2000 was just a stepping stone. I studied some, maybe 5-6 hours per month, but with work, family and grad school it was certainly limited. However, I played often, at least once a week, averaging about 60-70 rated OTB games per year. The only way I really improved was playing higher rated players often, studying my errors and improving my opennings.

Play the ..." turned based "....games ( 1 move at least every 3 days )...and use the analysis board ( which is allowed )..and don't stop analyzing till you find a good move or line. Only play 1 or 2 opponents tops...at one time. I'm 15-0-0 this year...and it seems that most all my opponents play between 30 to 120 games at once ????? Simple math indicates that they average less than 10 minutes a move studying a position...where I can study the position for hours and hours. Not only have I taken my rating from 1200 to 2033...I actually learn something ! Afterall...what is your objective....to win and learn !!!!...or play lots of games and lose just as many as you win ??????
