I’m a low rated player but I would never say anything abusive to anybody else. That is just unbelievable. I feel as if I’m being harassed by somebody. Do you think turning off the chat is the best thing? He just keeps asking me to friend people in his family on Facebook.

From what I've learned so far about this stuff, the fact you're playing bullet sounds like the best way to invite other people's drama and chaos into your life anyway. You could always just turn off the chat like they say. But if you don't want to lock out the nice people then keep chat on and just learn how to ignore the bastards that are nothing more than an electronic egotist with no life?
Persistent lags on chess.com abused me enough to the point I resigned from playing here

Sorry to hear how you feel when it comes to bullet chess. I think bullet chess just makes people into low class socialpaths with no manners at all, I guess bullet is too fast and can get easy wins which means you won without hard work. People taking winning and losing way too seriously and also in general don't respect other people and don't know how to be calm and solve problems.
The picture above is a guy that I beat 5-0 in a row all on time in completely lost positions and he gets super salty. Made easy work of him and this is how he behaves. Ugh.......You can disable chat and/or notes and people can just friend request if they want to hang out with you.........Ughhhhhh......When I have the time to do so, I will try to contribute something more fun and positive after all this chaotic hassle is over. Apparently bullet chess is like a hitman battle, 3 strikes and yer out X(

Exactly, it's your actually quality of play that will determine your rating. Some people just want to rematch to get rating points back and often get too mad when they lose. Ratings do matter and you should care about ratings, but it's not your first priority when getting better at chess. So? You don't know these people in real life. Why should I have chat on when people can just sent me a friend request if they want to talk to me? There are children on this site here, so I think disabling chat makes things more peaceful.

Don't turn off chat, I hate when people do that as it shows distrust, and I often try to end those games quickly and boringly. Just don't respond. Don't let them get to you.
In my life I have never been offended by anything said by anyone online I did not actually know in my 3D world. I might stand up and correct someone who is trying to sell some fact they are mistaken about. But insulted? Offended? I hope I'd never let something so silicon be that big a part of my life.
